THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ISLAMIC STUDIES USING THE MIT APPROACH AND THE REASONING OF KITAB KUNING AMONG MUFADA STUDENTS: A PHENOMENOLOGICAL-ANTHROPOLOGICAL STUDY
Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between Islamic studies employing the Multidisciplinary, Interdisciplinary, and Transdisciplinary (MIT) approach and the study of the kitab kuning among students of IAI Darussalam Banyuwangi who are members of the MUFADA institution. MUFADA serves as a forum for students of IAI Darussalam Banyuwangi who concentrate on understanding the kitab kuning and actively engage in various community activities. MUFADA represents an interesting religious phenomenon to study because it functions as an institution that articulates students’ perspectives in responding to contemporary social conditions. This research is qualitative in nature and utilizes interviews, observations, and literature studies as data collection methods. The study applies a phenomenological-anthropological approach by focusing on three important aspects: first, how students of IAI Darussalam Banyuwangi approach the understanding of the kitab kuning; second, how the MIT approach relates to the study of the kitab kuning within the MUFADA institution; and third, how the phenomenological-anthropological relationship is formed between MUFADA, IAI Darussalam Banyuwangi, Islamic boarding schools, and the broader community. The findings of this study indicate that the approach employed by the students of IAI Darussalam Banyuwangi within MUFADA in understanding the kitab kuning is contextual and relational, integrating various approaches from modern social sciences that are appreciated and developed within the academic environment of the institution.
