Abstract
The author is interested in further investigating the issue of weaning, focusing on the study of Quranic legal exegesis (tafsir ahkam) by referring to the perspectives of Quranic commentators (mufassir), in a treatise titled “The Age Limit for Weaning According to the Quran (A Study of the Exegesis of the Book Rawāi’ al-Bayān on Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 233)”. The objectives to be achieved in this study are to understand the exegesis of Surah Al-Baqarah verse 233 according to the interpretation in the book Rawāi’ al-Bayān and to determine the age limit for weaning according to the interpretation of Rawāi’ al-Bayān on Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 233. Meanwhile, the benefit of this research is expected to fulfill the graduation requirements for Marhalah Ula at Ma’had Aly Darul Munawwarah Kuta Krueng and to serve as a reference for future readers. This study is a qualitative research analyzing the works of classical commentators (salaf al-shalih), thus classifying it as library research. Based on the explanation from the existing exegesis, it can be concluded that the age limit for weaning according to the interpretation of Rawāi’ al-Bayān states that, according to the majority of scholars, the command to breastfeed a child for two years in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 233 is a recommended command (sunnah). This implies that it is permissible for parents (the baby's father and mother) to wean their child before two years. This shows that weaning is not strictly limited to a minimum age of two years, but is merely a recommended suggestion (sunnah); it is better for parents to provide complete breastfeeding to their child up to two years and preferable not to wean the child before the age of two
